Quote(s) of the Week

"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

Slow Going

Caitlin Speaks:

So, I wanted to have a nice long new post up for you last night. However, when I write a post I like 1) linking things I find relevant and 2) adding lots of pretty images. This takes a little more time than just plunking away on the keyboard in front of me. Mostly I do this to catch the interest of anyone who might stumble onto the page or people who may look at one of the alphabet soup jumbles (NPC, HP/MP, RPG, MMORPG, LARP) or terms that pepper my posts and go "Holy sweet mother of pearl, get the holy water, she's speaking in tongues!" or otherwise not know what they mean. Let's face it, not all people are geeks and not all people will understand geek language. It's just like when you descend into the often scary world of Fan Fiction and realize there are terms for all the parings of characters based on a meld of names such as "Kataang" "Zutara" "Romy." If you're not part of the particular fandom these terms are just so alien and out of place it makes it hard to decipher what you're reading.

Also work, instead of gracefully calming down for the summer, suddenly picked up for me as I began assisting another department (since they were short an assistant). So now my lunches are a little bit busier than typical, and I usually wrote posts during lunch. Also, Ryan spontaneously drove the 6-8 hour drive (depending on traffic) to my place this past weekend to spend some time with me. So I could not post this weekend. Yesterday it was so hot out here that the trains were all delayed and I got home about a half hour later than I should have. Then my family went out to try a new place for dinner (note, I did not actually go to my house before dinner, they picked me up from the train station), it was pretty "Blah" and then we had to drive back to the train station to get my car. THEN I got to go home. And when you have to get up at 5:30am every morning bedtime is around 10pm. I got home at 9pm. That time was then mostly dedicated to making sure I had clothes to wear to work today (translation: I had to iron) getting ready for bed and sleeping. Tonight I have to do laundry- piles of it. And Father's Day is rapidly approaching (a.k.a. this Sunday) and I still haven't figured out what to get for mine. As it is, I have not really had time to relax (aside from my time with Ryan) since last week sometime. Virtually none of that time was spent on the computer (my lovely Mage in Warcraft has been soaking up double-XP rest bars).

Anyway, I wanted to share with you (and to list to remind myself) some of the things I plan on posting about in the next few posts:

Ryan's visit and the geeky things we did, including the Zoo, Broadway, tuna and wine, an angry Aussie game reviewer (who will soon be linked over on the left), Anime, 70s comedies, and more.

Criminal Minds- Why I love it, and why watching Season one on DVD has been pretty fascinating on MANY levels.

Why strange things happen in NYC, and yet no one but the tourists seem to notice.

Changeling: The Lost- As I receive the newest supplement Lords of Summer.

"It's not Easy Being Game" a two part post about gaming woes you may also suffer from, and some you may have never realized.

I'm sure I'll think of more things as soon as I post this but frankly I'm really, really tired right now and I can't think straight. I've dedicated all my brain cells to work.

Note that Ryan is responsible for reviewing 4th Edition D&D when he receives his copy. Personally I've always had a mixed time with D&D, therefore I won't be buying a copy myself. Besides, if Ryan has one, it's like me having one anyway. Too much math in that game for my tastes :P

Anyway, that's all from me for now.

May your D20s roll high.
